Do Company Credit Reports include industry information?

Company credit reports can include industry information if an annual return has been filed

They can do. If a company has filed an annual return, a company credit report will include the SIC code (Standard Industrial Classification code) for that company. This is a five figure code that defines what industry a company operates in. Company directors select this code when filing annual returns.

The usefulness of the code depends on how specific directors choose to be (multiple codes can be selected); some codes are vague (82990: Other business support service activities) whilst some are detailed (77351: Renting and leasing of air passenger transport equipment).

If a company has filed an annual return – you can check what’s been filed on the company details page – the SIC code will be displayed under “Base Information” on the first page of the company credit report:
